Best Disney Hollywood Studios Rides for Adults
From thrilling roller coasters to interactive dark rides, Disney’s Hollywood Studios offers a wide range of attractions for adults to enjoy. Let’s take a look at some of the best Hollywood Studios rides for adults broken down by area, so you can plan your day around the attractions that interest you the most!
Sunset Boulevard

Sunset Boulevard is one of the most iconic sections of Disney Hollywood Studios in Orlando, and for good reason. As you make your way down the boulevard, you’ll be transported to a bygone era of Hollywood glamour, with stunning Art Deco architecture, vintage movie posters, and dazzling neon lights at every turn.
One of the main attractions of Sunset Boulevard is the incredible Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, a towering, ominous structure that looms over the street, beckoning visitors to take a ride to the top. Another less imposing, yet equally (if not more) thrilling attraction here is Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith. Both of these rides are firm favourites for adults visiting Disney Hollywood Studios.
#1: The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
Perfect for: Thrill seekers; The Twilight Zone fans
If you are looking for an unforgettable experience filled with thrills, then the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is the place to be! Standing 199 feet tall, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is one of the most iconic attractions at Disney Hollywood Studios — having been thrilling guests since 1994.

As you enter the beautiful yet mysterious hotel lobby and the library, you can start feeling the suspense in the air, which only peaks as you board an elevator that takes you up 13 floors. From there, it is a thrilling drop tower ride that takes travellers through multiple levels of mystery and suspense, all while they’re listening to eerie music from the classic TV show. Along with the incredible visuals, this ride also features special effects like wind and lightning, as well as a thrilling mid-ride plunge in complete darkness and sudden drops at random intervals.
The nostalgia factor of experiencing a classic Twilight Zone episode, and the suspenseful music adding to the anticipation, both make this an unforgettable experience. Besides the thrills, guests can also appreciate another layer of excitement when they see how much care was taken to make every detail feel realistic and how much each element adds to the overall story of the ride, making this one of the best rides at Disney Hollywood Studios for adults.
Duration: 3 minutes 34 seconds
- The Queue and Preshow: The queue starts snaking around the overgrown gardens outside the beautiful yet dilapidated Hollywood Tower Hotel. Once you make your way into the lobby, and queue a little more, you are then welcomed to the hotel’s library where an array of books and antiques are displayed. Suddenly, lightning and thunder crash and all powers down. All except the TV, which crackles into life with Rod Serling telling the guests that soon they will be starring in their own “The Twilight Zone” episode.
- The Ride: After a story about a mysterious stormy night at the hotel on October 31, 1939, which made five people mysteriously disappear from an elevator along with an entire wing of the building, the guests are directed to board a maintenance service elevator where they embark on an exciting journey through time and space to The Twilight Zone with unexpected drops and special effects like lightning flashes and eerie music that heighten the intensity of their journey.
Approximate Wait Time: 15-30 minutes
Fun Facts:
- Disney wanted Rod Serling, the creator of the groundbreaking science-fiction series The Twilight Zone this ride is based on, to be part of the attraction, even though he had passed away almost two decades earlier. To do this, they held auditions and enlisted the help of Carol Serling, Rod’s widow, to choose the perfect voice for her late husband. After many auditions, Mark Silverman was chosen by Carol as the official voice of Rod Serling.
- There are many nods to the classic television show scattered throughout the hotel area. One of them is at the end of the queue, in the hotel lobby, where a cast member directs you to go left or right. At the centre of this intersection is an intriguing directory that has some letters missing… Guests who get close and look at the bottom of the directory can discover a secret message written using the missing letters!

#2: Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
Perfect for: Thrill seekers
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is an exhilarating and iconic ride that has been featured at Disney’s Hollywood Studios since 1999 and is regularly referred to as one of the best rides at Disney Hollywood Studios for adults.
While it may not look as ominous as the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror on the outside, this hair-raising, fast-paced ride with inversions and a top speed of 57 mph will definitely give you an adrenaline rush unlike any other. It’s no secret that this thrilling roller coaster packs quite a punch, offering some of the most intense G-forces found in any Disney attraction. Even for experienced riders, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith provides an unforgettable experience with amazing visuals and an incredible rock and roll soundtrack from Aerosmith playing throughout the track.
Duration: 1 minute 22 seconds
- The Queue and Preshow: When guests enter the line queue at Disney Hollywood Studios, they take part in a pre-show experience at Studio C, where Aerosmith is at work with a sound engineer on an instrumental version of “Walk This Way”. When the band’s manager interrupts them about running late for their show, Steven Tyler offers to take the guests with them in a “super stretch” limo (Manager: “Well, guys, what do you expect me to do? Send them all with you?” to which Steven replies saying: “Wait a minute. I love that idea. How about some backstage passes?“). The manager reluctantly agrees, and Aerosmith drives off blaring their hit song, leaving the manager behind. Once this scene ends, “Walk This Way” plays vocally as the guests are permitted to board the ride.
- The Ride: After boarding your stretch limo, prepare yourself to rock out with Aerosmith as you speed around turns and loops at around 60 miles per hour! The coaster takes guests on a high-speed journey through the streets of Los Angeles as you jam to the classic rock music of Aerosmith. A thrilling upside-down loop, corkscrew, and zero gravity roll are among the many thrills in store for guests as they experience this one-of-a-kind attraction.
Approximate Wait Time: 30-45 minutes
Fun Facts:
- Each super-stretch limo is outfitted with a 125-speaker, 24-subwoofer, 32 KW audio system, playing the best of Aerosmith’s hits as they go.
- Each vehicle features a different Aerosmith hit song or medley, depending on the license plate:
- 1QKLIMO: “Nine Lives”
- UGOBABE: “Love in an Elevator” and “Walk This Way”
- BUHBYE: “Young Lust”, “F.I.N.E.*” and “Love in an Elevator” (Sung as Love in a Rollercoaster in the last line)
- H8TRFFC: “Back in the Saddle” and “Dude (Looks Like a Lady)”
- 2FAST4U: “Sweet Emotion”
Starting February 21, 2023, guests will have to wait to experience Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith as the iconic ride undergoes refurbishment. But fear not — in summer 2023, you can once again rock out in the signature super-stretch limo!
Echo Lake
Echo Lake at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a picturesque lake located in the heart of the park. With its calming waters and shimmering blue hues, it serves as a perfect backdrop for fun activities like Indiana Jones stunts, to quench your thirst with an icy-cold beverage or snack on some delicious concession stand food around the perimeter!
#3: Star Tours® – The Adventures Continue
Perfect for: Star Wars fans

Star Tours® – The Adventures Continue is an exciting 3D motion-simulated spaceflight adventure at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that will leave you feeling like part of the movie franchise itself.
Here, guests can buckle up and visit the far reaches of the galaxy with C-3PO and R2-D2 as they fly through iconic Star Wars locales such as Tatooine, Hoth and even the Death Star! With ever-changing pathways, no two rides are alike, so be prepared for all kinds of surprises along the way!
Duration: 4 minutes 30 seconds
- The Queue: The spaceport terminal-inspired queue features posters promoting voyages to various planets, and a large LCD screen displaying flight statuses, planetary weather forecasts, and advertisements extolling the benefits of booking with Star Tours, as well as audio-animatronic characters that interact with guests and each other in the queue. Subsequently, guests collect their 3-D flight glasses and are directed by a flight agent to one of six gates in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where they wait for boarding.
- The Pre-Show: The premise of the ride is that C-3PO gets stuck in the cockpit of the ship — where he was assigned maintenance responsibilities — after the captain departs. C-3PO laments the miscommunication to R2-D2 on top of the ship but to no avail when the StarSpeeder 1000 takes off with C-3PO inside.
- The Ride: Guests board a Starspeeder 1000 spacecraft and experience a thrilling adventure through the Star Wars galaxy. The ride features randomized scenarios, so each time you ride, you can experience different characters, planets, and events. Your spacecraft will travel through the deserts of Tatooine, the underwater city of Naboo, or the Death Star debris field, navigating through asteroid fields, dodging blaster fire, and being chased by Imperial ships.
Approximate Wait Time: 15-25 minutes
Fun Facts:
- This 3D attraction features a randomiser which selects from a range of multiple storylines, ensuring that each and every journey is unique.
- This is one of the oldest attractions in the park, first debuting as “Star Tours” in December 1989 at what was then called Disney-MGM Studios. After a major refurbishment, the ride reopened in 2011 under the new name of “Star Tours® – The Adventures Continue”, with additional scenes added to the ride, making it even more exciting.

This is definitely the least immersive of all the Disney Hollywood Studios Star Wars experiences, so if you are short on time, I would recommend checking out these Star Wars rides instead.
Toy Story Land
Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a dramatic 11-acre addition to the park inspired by Pixar’s iconic movie. Here you can step into Andy’s backyard and join Woody, Buzz, Jessie and friends for a one-of-a-kind experience full of fun and adventure!
Adults will especially love the jaw-dropping views of the park from the Slinky Dog Dash roller coaster, while the whole family can also explore other attractions like Toy Story Mania!, Alien Swirling Saucers (not the best for adults), and meet their favourite characters.
#4: Slinky Dog Dash
Perfect for: Families
From the moment you step into Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you’re greeted by Andy’s beloved Slinky Dog Dash roller coaster. This exciting ride takes thrill-seekers of all ages on a wild and zany journey as they zip around bends, soar above giant toys and plunge to earth.
What makes Slinky Dog Dash so unique is that adults get spectacular views of the park from high above. On this fun-filled ride, you can expect to be taken on an epic adventure full of twists and turns, curves and loops. Plus, there’s nothing more thrilling than seeing huge figures of Buzz Lightyear, Rex and Woody up close!
With its vibrant colours and larger-than-life characters, this ride is sure to bring out the kid in everyone!

Photo by Patrick Konior on Unsplash
Duration: 2 minutes
Approximate Wait Time: 20-40 minutes (but can go up to 60 minutes some days)
Fun Facts:
- Looking for references to the Toy Story movie series? Don’t miss out on all the fun details before you even get on the ride! Keep an eye out for the box of Dash & Dodge Mega Coaster Kit at the entrance, which was used by Andy to build the track, and marvel at Andy’s sketches of coaster schematics that he drew using crayons and pencils.
- The rollercoaster has two launches. The pause-and-launch in the middle was designed to recreate the sensation of playing with a pull-back toy that winds up and then is launched.
#5: Toy Story Mania
Perfect for: Families; Gamers

Photo by Silvana Carlos on Unsplash
Step into Andy’s Room and experience 4D gaming with all your favourite Toy Story characters. This interactive shooting game, using special spring-action shooters, pits players against each other in virtual 3D carnival games as you compete for the highest score. You’ll be glad you chose this ride when you get off and have a blast trying to beat your personal high score or your friend’s!
Is this the best ride at Disney Hollywood Studios for adults? Probably not. But it is definitely perfect for (competitive) adults who are looking for something fun and challenging at the same time! Additionally, thanks to its family-friendly nature, this attraction works well for all ages making it an ideal choice for families looking for something all members can enjoy together.
Duration: 5-6 minutes
- The Queue and Preshow: As you enter the queue, you’ll find yourself surrounded by oversized toys, board games, and other familiar elements from the Toy Story franchise. After you pass through the queue, you’ll enter a room designed as a carnival game booth, where you will be given 3D glasses for use throughout the ride.
- The Ride: Guests board a ride vehicle designed as a carnival tram and enter different booths to play carnival games that are inspired by classic midway games, like ring toss, baseball toss, balloon pop, dart throw and pie toss. As the tram moves through these game booths, riders use their spring-action shooter to hit targets they see on 3D screens throughout each game. The games score points and get progressively more challenging, providing an engaging and exciting experience throughout the ride.
Approximate Wait Time: 30-45 minutes
Fun Facts:
- Toy Story Mania (also known as Toy Story Midway Mania!) was the first attraction to be built in two parks at the same time. It made its debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 31, 2008, and two weeks later, on June 17th, it opened up in Disney California Adventure too. With its fabulous 3D visuals and fun interactive elements, it quickly became one of the most beloved attractions in both parks.
- In each mini-game, players can find hidden “Easter eggs” that may unlock additional targets or gameplay changes.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge area in Disney’s Hollywood Studios brings the world of Star Wars to life.
Here, the guests can explore the Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu and immerse themselves in a galaxy far, far away. Visitors can ride on Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run and join the Resistance or First Order in an epic battle, construct their own droids and lightsabers, sample galactic-inspired food and drinks, shop for one-of-a-kind wares from across the galaxy, and so much more!
The dining and shopping area in this section is so good that it actually makes you feel like you are making a cameo appearance in one of the franchise’s movies or TV shows!

#6: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
Perfect for: Star Wars fans

Feeling the Force? Then you won’t want to miss out on Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, a truly thrilling adventure and IMO, the best ride at Disney Hollywood Studios for adults!
This mammoth of an attraction takes guests into a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. During this epic journey, visitors will board an Intersystem Transport Ship as they come face-to-face with a First Order Fleet and confront Kylo Ren.
Not only is this attraction full of action-packed scenes and showstopping moments, but it’s also filled with realistic sets, special effects and advanced technology from start to finish. And excellent cast members, I must add! You can tell that every detail has been carefully crafted to bring the story to life in front of your very eyes, making it an experience that will truly make you feel like you are part of the movie!
Whether you’re a die-hard fan or simply curious about what Disney has to offer, this is one attraction that shouldn’t be missed. Step into a galaxy far, far away and join the rebellion today!

Duration: 18 minutes
- The Queue: As you approach the attraction, you’ll find the queue starts outside, in the Resistance base known as Black Spire Outpost. Guests then make their way through a winding path lined with crates, barrels, and equipment typically found in the Star Wars universe. The queue area features a series of caves, where you’ll see remnants of ancient ruins, Mon Calamari sea mines, and even droid parts.
- The Pre-Show: Next, guests enter a briefing room designed to look like the command centre of a Resistance cruiser, where they see a hologram of Rey outlining the mission’s objectives. However, the briefing is interrupted as the First Order discovers the base and guests are rushed to the ride vehicles for an evacuation.
- The Ride: The ride experience is divided into two main parts. The first part of the ride is a trackless dark ride, which puts guests in the middle of a heated battle between the First Order and the Resistance troops. The second part of the ride is a motion simulator where guests join a high-speed Star Wars space battle. Both sections of the ride use impressive special effects, projections, and realistic animatronics. Throughout the ride, you encounter iconic Star Wars characters, including Rey, Kylo Ren, and BB-8, as well as a range of other characters from the Star Wars saga. The experience is designed to make you feel like you’re part of the story, with realistic and immersive sets, sound, and lighting.
Approximate Wait Time: 40-60 minutes (but can go up to 80-90 minutes some days)
Fun Facts:
- This ride is based on the classic Star Wars franchise and combines a number of experiences in one – from soaring through space on a First Order Star Destroyer to joining a covert operation with the Resistance.
- It is considered the most immersive experience at any of the Walt Disney World® Resorts, featuring amazing audio-animatronics and special effects.
#7: Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run
Perfect for: Star Wars fans, Gamers

Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run is an interactive, virtual flight that simulates the experience of piloting the iconic Millennium Falcon, and is one of the best rides at Hollywood Studios for adults (but then again, I’m probably biased as a Star Wars lover).
The ride plays out like an interactive space mission, as each visitor assumes the role of pilot, engineer or gunner aboard the famous ship. To ensure the success of the mission (and if they ever hope to make it past dangerous enemies lurking in other galaxies), the guests must work together. Luckily, the mix of advanced technology, detailed sets and immersive audio-visual effects brings the fighter out of even the most docile guests, making everyone truly feel like part of the story!
Duration: 4 minutes and 30 seconds
- The Queue: The attraction’s queue is designed to look like a spaceport hanger, where guests wait to board the Millennium Falcon. The queue is filled with authentic Star Wars touches that will immerse guests in the world of the movie franchise. There are a variety of cargo crates, tools, and droids that line the walls, giving guests plenty to explore and discover.
- The Preshow: Groups of six guests are assigned different roles on the ship, including pilot, gunner, and engineer. In the pre-ride show, guests are given instructions on how to perform their assigned responsibilities, as they will directly affect the success of the mission. Hondo Ohnaka and Chewbacca appear in the pre-ride video briefing to explain each team member’s role and what to expect for the upcoming mission.
- The Ride: The multi-person cockpit simulates a flight through space. During the ride, guests face a number of obstacles that they must overcome to successfully complete their mission, and each guest’s actions, such as piloting manoeuvres and weapon accuracy, impact the outcome of the ride. After the flight, each rider is given a scorecard that reflects their performance, which can later be compared with those in their party or other riders.
Approximate Wait Time: 20-40 minutes
Fun Facts:
- When guests board the ride, they’re actually sitting in a replica of the Millennium Falcon’s cockpit, with the same button panels, switches, and levers featured in the Star Wars films.
- Guests experience real-time responses to their actions as they pilot the iconic spacecraft. So depending on how well the riders perform during their mission, it’s possible to achieve a high score, but also to fail the mission.

The Droid Depot, located in the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge area of the park, is a must-visit for fans and aspiring droid builders alike. You’ll have the chance to create your very own droid from parts and pieces provided by the depot before deciding whether to keep it or have it incinerated (which makes an incredible display!). After selecting all of your parts, you can watch as your creation comes to life — lights blinking, arms moving and sounds buzzing!
Once you’ve finished creating your droid, you can take it around with you on all your adventures throughout the parks. But before you leave the depot, don’t miss out on the fun of assembling model kits or trying out premade and premium droids. And if you’re looking for something really unique, check out the cool collection of upcycled objects crafted from scrap parts.

This experience is recommended for ages 3 and up, and it’s limited to one builder plus one guest — the builder must be 14 or older, and only the builder is allowed to build a droid.
