How It All Started
Travel has always excited me – As a child, I loved the road trips we took as a family. Packing the bags the night before, watch dad load the car in the dead of the morning huffing and puffing about how we don’t need all of this, while mum quietly hides another bag under our feet in the backseat, my brother already too far deep in his sleep to notice any of this… The whole shebang.
And while the frequency of our trips and the level of comfort afforded to us (it was very inconvenient, and frankly inconsiderate, of my brother to grow up to be 6′4″! :)) gradually dropped as we grew older, we never lost the excitement and anticipation… Never did we not discuss which scenic route to take, or which delicious food will accompany our ice-cold beer on the other end. And it’s fair to say, we all took something from that shared passion and came up with our own definitions of what makes a good trip.
I, personally, love the feeling you get when you’re in a city/country you have never been to before, watch the people go about their day, take in the sounds and smells of your surroundings, marvel at how customs and approaches can change within a couple of miles of radius…. knowing that at that moment you’re completely away from everything you know and deem familiar, and instead you’re part of something that is much bigger than you.
Food is of course a big part of this experience.. When you find that little pocket of heaven with good local food, it’s more than simple sustenance, it’s like listening to a story… of the geography, the history, the traditions and the people who made it and those before them.
Photography too, has always been something I truly enjoyed (just ask my first love, my high school Holga who was 100% wasted on me :)) but for whatever reason, I never could invest as much time in it as I wished… And because I could never do it as well as I hoped, I simply stopped doing it… at all.
And then…
Fast forward to 2014 and here I was in London for what I expected to be a one-year-long pursuit of a master’s degree abroad.
Little did I know, I was actually about to meet my now partner in crime – a photographer bon vivant who is even more of a travel/food/wine lover than me- , find a job and start calling this beautiful city my home. And soon after, start what would eventually become GG… And the rest is history, really.
Now, here I am, a biotech geek during the week, a wandering serial eater/drinker/baker on the weekends, and simply, a girl who likes to share some of her finds with lovely likeminded people like yourselves pretty much any given day 🙂
I hope you like it here!
Lots of love,
GG
