REVIEW: Mallow – London’s Best Plant-Based Restaurant

Last Updated on November 23, 2022 by Goya

Dreaming of the perfect spot for your Veganuary fix? Well, look no further because Mallow, London is here to sweep you off your plant-based feet!

Brought to you by the very experienced team behind Mildreds, this is a place that ticks all the boxes: a great blend of creative 100% plant-based food, beautiful atmosphere, great location (right in the heart of Borough Market) and convivial bar/service staff.

What more do you need for a great night out?

We went to Mallow on a Wednesday evening for a little catch-up/girls night with my lovely Nina.

We ordered 4 small plates to share, plus one main and one dessert each, with copious amounts of cocktails (which, fair to say, we both deeply regretted the next day), because everything sounded just so damn delicious! In hindsight, we could and should have definitely ordered less… yet, we have no regrets when it comes to food as they were all magnificent!

Of the small plates, the dumplings were a clear winner for both of us, followed closely by the porcini truffle croquettes. The celeriac skewer was also amazing. The one with “feta” was really fresh and delicious but didn’t quite pack quite a punch as the others:

Our absolute favourite: Son dumplings with kimchi, gochujang dip
A very close second were these porcini truffle croquettes with leeks and aioli
A perfection called: Skordalia, celeriac skewer, Jerusalem artichoke
Almond feta with bitter leaves, blackberry vinegar

The mains were also very good, but I have to admit, not as mind-blowing as the small plates.

Perhaps, I am saying that because the tacos were a little too spicy for my taste.. which may not be a fair review, considering I was also drinking a Hot & Smoky Cocktail ( with mezcal, ancho reyes verde, green tea, lime, mint) at the time 🙂

Pasilla padron oyster mushroom tacos with citrus habanero slaw, sour cream and pink onions
white miso dashi, rice noodles, chard, mushroom sesame tempeh, daikon

And then came desserts and food coma:

chocolate hazelnut financier, white chocolate mousse

crème brûlée, morello cherry, coconut tuille

And as I said, we had all of this food with a side of burnt butter old fashioned (perfection!), blackberry & rosemary margarita (also amazing!), hot & smoky and the desserts with some sweet wine. They also have an extensive wine list or a mocktail list, if these don’t appeal to you.

We left Mallow, London already planning our next visit, and I’m sure you will too.

Until then, happy Veganuary all!
